Microplastics in landfill leachates: The need for reconnaissance studies and remediation technologies

چکیده
Although landfills represent repositories for cumulative loading of plastic waste derived from households and industrial sectors, often seen as sinks, the contribution these structures their leachates potential sources microplastics to natural environments remains poorly covered. Microplastics discharged sites may pose greater risks human environmental health by adsorbed toxic persistent hazardous chemicals. As reviewed here, landfill present microplastic concentrations 0–291 particles L−1, highly variable depending on conditions methodologies adopted, while treatment can reduce in 1–2 orders magnitude. Nonetheless, knowledge is still scarce factors influencing release landfills, technology must be developed mitigate this source microplastics, which poses a significant challenge but needed order preserve good status.

Pesticides in Norwegian Landfill Leachates
Pesticides have been analyzed in 28 grab samples of untreated and 12 samples of treated leachate from eight Norwegian municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills, over a period of 10 years, with the purpose to screen for compounds and to evaluate the removal in different treatment systems. Also 1 grab samples of leachate sediments is included. A total of 12 compounds were detected. The most frequentl...

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

Toxicity identification evaluation (TIE) phase I manipulations and toxicity test with D. magna were conducted on leachates from an industrial waste landfill site in Japan. Physicochemical analysis detected heavy metals at concentrations insufficient to account for the observed acute toxicity. The graduated pH and aeration manipulations identified the prominent toxicity of ammonia. Based on join...
متن کاملNitrifyers in constructed wetlands treating landfill leachates
Landfill leachate is produced many years after a landfill site closes. Hence, treatment by “natural methods”, as e.g. constructed wetlands, with low management requirements is attractive. Constructed wetlands usually provide both shallow and deep areas with aerobic and anaerobic zones, which is suitable for nitrification followed by denitrification of the ammonium-rich leachates. Full-scale tre...
متن کاملCombined anaerobic-aerobic treatment of landfill leachates
As a first step of treatment of landfill leachates (total COD – 1,430-3,810 mg/l, total nitrogen 90162 mg/l), a performance of laboratory UASB reactors has been investigated under mesophilic (30 C), sub-mesophilic (20 C) and psychrophilic (10 C) conditions. Under hydraulic retention times (HRT) of around 7 h, when the average organic loading rates (OLR) were around 5 g COD/l/day, the total COD ...
